About Five Points
How did Five Points in Denver, Colorado get its name? It is in reference to an intersection in the neighborhood that has exactly that: five points. The streets that converge upon this intersection are Washington Street, East Twenty-Sixth Avenue, Welton Street, and Twenty-Seventh Street. During the history of Five Points in the late 1800’s, this neighborhood was one of the most desirable streetcar suburbs of Denver.
Five Points was predominantly a Black neighborhood in the 1920’s, and over many decades has grown into a melting pot of all ethnicities. Because of this amalgam of cultures, Five Points has enjoyed the influence of the arts from all over Colorado.
In recent times, Five Points has enjoyed a significant development boom which included new restaurants, housing developments, hotels, and more. In fact, Five Points was voted Denver’s Best Neighborhood of 2021 by the website 5280.com.
The arts are definitely on grand display in Five Points, through its jazz music, it’s fantastically preserved historical architecture, and fabulously colored wall murals by local artists.
